How to convert your Scalextric Classic track to Advance (and race up to 9 cars)

If you already have a Scalextric Classic circuit, the good news is that you don’t need to buy everything again to move over to Advance. The system is designed so you can convert your track and cars step by step, making use of the layout you already have set up at home. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: replace a standard straight with the lane-change track

The first change is on the track itself: replace a 360 mm straight with the lane-change track. This is the piece that makes real overtaking possible during a race, something the Classic system doesn’t offer.

Step 2: convert your Classic cars to Advance

Each car needs its own conversion kit, with the correct chip (A, B or C depending on the model). In short, the process is:

  1. Remove the contact support from the chassis until it comes away completely.
  2. Replace that support and the analogue guide with the Advance electronics and guide, fitting the module until it is held in place by the rear tabs.
  3. Fit the motor assembly, starting with the chassis lugs and pressing the front section down until it sits properly.
  4. Insert the Advance guide and refit the body shell.

This way, each Classic car becomes compatible with the Advance system without losing any of its original parts.

Step 3: swap your analogue controllers for wireless ones

Finally, replace your analogue controllers with the Advance wireless controllers. One important detail: don’t leave the analogue controllers plugged into the connection track, as they can interfere with the new wireless system.

What if I want to go back to Classic?

It isn’t a permanent change. Each converted car has a switch on the underside of the chassis that lets you change it from Advance to Classic (and back again) whenever you like, without having to take anything apart again.

What you gain by moving to Advance

Once the conversion is done, your circuit gains several features the Classic system doesn’t have:

  • Real lane changing, so you can overtake your rivals in the middle of a race.
  • Wireless controllers, with no cables limiting where you sit to race.
  • Connect Bluetooth track, which links your circuit to a mobile or tablet to manage races, drivers and lap times.
  • Up to 9 cars racing at once on the same circuit, changing lanes between them just like in a real race.

FAQs about converting from Classic to Advance

Do I need to convert the whole circuit at once? No. You can start with the lane-change track or just one car, then complete the rest of the system at your own pace.

Do I lose any of my Classic circuit parts when I convert it? No. The conversion kit is added to what you already have; it doesn’t replace or discard your original circuit or cars.

How many cars can race at the same time on an Advance circuit? Up to 9 cars, thanks to the lane-changing system included in the Advance conversion.

Which chip do I need to convert my car? It depends on the car model: the system uses three types of chip (A, B or C), each designed for a different type of chassis.
